5 (Free) Ways to Pamper Yourself in 5 Minutes

We all have those weeks or months when life is too hectic for a little pampering, which is of course when you really need it! Finals, projects at work, demanding job, demanding family… But you can’t function at your best if you don’t take time for yourself. These five tips will help you de-stress and refresh. Bonus: they are time efficient and (mostly) free.

1.  Treat Yourself to Flowers

Free option: Cut some flowers from your garden, if you have your own, or a family member’s garden.  I don’t have much of a green thumb, let alone space for one beyond a window sill, so I will “borrow” from my mom’s garden.

Splurge option: Pick up some fresh flowers while grocery shopping.  Whole Foods always has a great selection.  No more time lost than the time it takes to pick your flowers and drop them in a vase.

2. Light a Candle

Free option:  Pull out any candle you already have, even if its just a little tea light.  Extra relaxation points for something with a soothing scent like lavender.  Enjoy the ambience while you work, study, shower, or whatever you need to do at home.

Splurge option:  Treat yourself to a pretty new candle.  I have my eye on this gorgeous gold Williams-Sonoma candle.  It just might find its way into my apartment this holiday season…

3. Take a Walk

Free option:  Take five minutes to walk around the block.  Put in some headphones and listen to music or just take some quiet time to unwind.

Splurge option:  Walk yourself to a neighborhood cafe for your favorite beverage treat.  Its mandatory to ask for extra whipped cream.

4. Take a bath

Free option:  Tack on an extra five minutes to your shower routine in favor of a relaxing bath.  Epsom salt is soothing for the body and great for muscle aches.  Plus its cheap and readily available.

Splurge option:  Treat yourself to a bathtub caddy.  This one has a book support and is designed specially to hold a wine glass.

5. Be Mindful

Take five minutes and do whatever mindfulness practice works for you–breathing exercises, meditation, sitting quietly.  Practice daily for added benefits!

  1. I really enjoyed this post. I try to take at least 10 minutes of my lunch break at work to get outside and either take a walk or read. its a nice way to break up the day and puts me in a great mood! I also like to make myself a cup of tea as a nice pick-me-up when I’m feeling down.
    Love the bath idea, might have to do that tonight!
